Matter – Sum of its Parts and Introduction to the Law of Conservation of Matter
This PowerPoint Lesson includes 40 slides designed to give students practice with finding the mass using the Sum of Parts. This lesson was created to allow students to figure out how the mass of the individual parts total the mass of the entire object. Students will have the opportunity to figure out the total mass and the mass of part of the object. The scenarios used in the lesson include science related content allowing for discussion involving physical and chemical changes. Focus is also placed on items going through a phase change. As a liquid changes to a gas, the matter is not lost. Instead the mass is changed to a gas. Students will find the mass of the water vapor that has evaporated. Includes a link to a video on the Law of Conservation of Matter.
