This activity has been designed to enhance student understanding of how matter works and how it changes. It can be used as both a direct instruction activity or as skill practice at a learning station.
I have used these instructional pieces in teaching a unit on matter in which I present students with the paired articles for close reading. As follow-up, students complete the sorting activity that accompanies the paired text. In some cases, I have had students post the sort inside of a Science journal to be used as a resource on a unit assessment.
The cards can be printed onto cardstock and laminated for students to use at a station prior to completing the sort, if deemed necessary.
