This document contains FOUR LEVELS of differentiated reading passages (12 passages in all--3 passages per reading level) of informational text about matter and energy (physical science). EVEN BETTER, there are 10 different close reading prompts PER passage. Choose from ten different close activities. This is a great way to expose students to informational text, cover STEM and science, and help students build close reading skills as they practice reading strategies. This is a great tool for exposing students at different ability levels to informational text simultaneously.
Passages range from fourth grade to seventh grade reading levels. They are aligned to the Flesch Kincaid readability scale. A master index has been included to promote discrete differentiation.
The topical practice enables students to learn in-depth about states of matter, kinetic and static energy, how energy flows, and more. This document enables students to understand how science is related to daily life as they practice close reading skills with informational text. Since the document is thematic, a student can build world and vocabulary knowledge as close reading skills are reinforced.
This is a great tool for transitioning into Common Core. This aligns with both the Common Core Informational Text Standards and Common Core Next Generation Science Standards. An additional page has been included in the document to show Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards alignment.
