I created this PowerPoint to use with my high school Physical Science students, but it would also be appropriate for use with high school physics or chemistry students, as it covers the overlap between the two courses.
The PowerPoint is filled with images and key terms are highlighted for easy reference by students and teachers. It begins with a listing of the appropriate Georgia Performance Standards, with key concepts highlighted, so both teachers and students can reference them easily.
Concepts covered in this PowerPoint: classifying matter, mixtures, properties of matter, density (with equation), chemical and physical changes/properties, kinetic theory, states of matter, law of conservation of matter, fluids, pressure (with equation), gas laws (with sample problems). temperature scales and conversions, energy transfer, specific heat (with example problem). 1st law of thermodynamics, entropy.
This product is tied to the following Georgia Performance Standards:
• SPS2. Students will explore the nature of matter, its
classifications, and its system for naming types of matter. • SPS2a. Calculate density when given a means to
determine a substance’s mass and volume.
• SPS5. Students will compare and contrast the phases of
matter as they relate to atomic and molecular motion.
• SPS5a. Compare and contrast the atomic/molecular
motion of solids, liquids, gases and plasmas.
• SPS5b. Relate temperature, pressure, and volume of gases to the behavior of gases.
