Product Description
This activity is to be used when conducting a unit on the Holocaust or the graphic memoir "Maus." "Prisoner on Hell Planet" is a section in "Maus" where the author is remembering a time when his father found a comic he had drawn, illustrating his memory of his mothers suicide. His mother Anja, was a Holocaust survivor who chose to take her own life after the painful memories of Holocaust became too much. The comic is drawn differently from the rest of the graphic memoir so it is a different lesson where students can really analyze the author's painful memories and guilt he has faced dealing with his mother's suicide. This activity is a collection of questions about the comic within "Maus" which allows students to think deeply & thoroughly analyze the text & images that hold a great deal of meaning to the book. The students always find this section of the book very interesting & meaningful & this activity serves as a great assessment of their analyzation of the main characters within "Maus."
