This lesson is to be used when teaching "Maus - A Survivor's Tale." This activity allows students to become more familiar with the idea of primary sources and incorporates found poetry into this graphic memoir about the Holocaust. Students are given information about primary sources & poetry and an explanation of found poetry. The students are provided with an example of found poetry derived from the dialogue in "Maus." The students will be able to identify the different ways found poetry is created and with this information and example, they will be creating their own found poetry using "Maus" as their primary source. The students really like this lesson and come up with some amazingly creative poems that they can't wait to share with their classmates!
