MAXIMAL OPPOSITIONS = KNOWN SOUND vs. UNKOWN SOUND
This is one of a few evidence based approaches for children who present with moderate-severe phonological delays and who have MORE than six sounds missing from their speech inventory. Similar to minimal pairs in that two sounds are contrasted, this approach pairs a 'known' sound with an 'unknown' sound, with the two pairs being 'maximally' different in terms of aspects such as place, manner and voicing.
MAXIMAL OPPOSITIONS: The following pairs have been chosen for variety: K-L, K-R, N-F, M-CH, M-F, M-S, S-R, D-R, H-R, W-SH, G-L, W-J, Y-S.
✅ -- 13x different Maximal Oppositions covering a variety of nasals, glides, fricatives, affricates and stops
✅ -- 8x Maximal Opposition pairs (cards) in COLOR and BLACK & WHITE per sound ✅ -- 1x Drill & Draw worksheet in BLACK & WHITE. Say the word pairs x5 for each word and draw the line across. Use whiteboard markers and minis to get interactive.
