In this task students investigate the volume of different rectangular prisms created by cutting squares from the corners of a piece of card stock.
**Teacher Notes: I use this task as a follow-up activity after students (in pairs) have been given a piece of card stock and asked to create a prism (with no 'lid') with the largest possible volume. For motivation, I usually fill students resulting prisms with popcorn-- they get ONE chance!! No second sheet of paper.) I do this on the first or second day of volume after students have just become familiar with the basic concept and the formula.
