Pg. 3-5 Vocabulary in Context – copy pages A and B back to back, fold on the solid lines, cut on the dotted lines – illustrate and write a sentence for each vocabulary word
Pg. 6 Use It! – write your vocabulary words in a paragraph or short story
Pg. 7 Spelling Art! – roll the dice to see what color to use to write your spelling words – write each word four times
Pg. 8 Words! Words! Words! – more spelling practice - unscramble your spelling words and write them correctly underneath each pair of scissors
Pg. 9-11 My Comprehension Flip It! – copy page A and B back to back, fold on the solid lines, cut on the dotted lines, answer the questions and illustrate
Pg. 12-14 Sequence of Events – use these large sentence strips from Max’s Words for whole class sequencing or small group sequencing
Pg. 15-17 Sequence of Events! – It’s your turn! – an opportunity for students to work independently and practice their sequencing skills – cut and glue the sentence strips in order
Pg. 18-20 Collect a Verb and Use it in a Sentence! – there are enough word collections for four students per sheet – just copy and cut before handing out – choose only the verbs from the word collection – cut out the verbs and use them in a sentence – glue the verbs into your sentences
Pg. 21-22 “Being” Verbs! – a foldable book – use each being verb in a sentence – look at illustration to see how to cut and fold the book – only cut on the center dotted line
Pg. 23-25 Cut it UP! – take the nouns and cut them between the base word and the suffix – glue them onto the chart in the appropriate column – look at the verb and write to explain the meaning of the noun
Pg. 26-29 Sequence of Events TV! – copy the TV onto brown construction paper – copy the legs and TV antenna onto gray construction paper – cut only on the dotted lines that form the square opening of the TV and the center dotted in the middle of the TV paper – fold it and glue the sides and portions of the top leaving the dotted line area open and unglued at the top – cut the writing paper down the middle and glue it together to form one long strip of paper – fill in the sequence of events for Max’s Words or another story of your choice by writing a summary of the events on the lines, there is room for an illustration as well as a place for the title at the top and writing “the end” at the very bottom – you can then feed the paper strip through the TV – take two pencils ( I used old ones) tape the ends of the writing strips to the pencils and roll the paper strip onto the pencils like an old scroll – after doing this a few times it will roll nicely – glue on the legs and antenna – make sure you tape edges down on the pencils securely as well as taping the seam in the middle of the paper strip back and front so it does not catch on the TV -the students can then read each others sequence of events by rolling from one end to the other
Pg. 30-31 My Words! Copy onto white construction paper, add your picture or illustrate yourself in the center of the paper – cut out words from magazines and newspapers that describe yourself or that you like – glue them onto the paper around your picture – hang in the hall
