May Packet for 4th Grade!
HIGH INTEREST FICTION, NONFICTION AND POETRY!!
All of the following excerpts, charts, passages and diagrams are associated with either a variety of multiple choice reading comprehension questions, open-response questions, student inquiry, both short and long answer questions or a combination of strategies.
Students will get acquainted with taking complex-question assessments. Use for; weekly assessments, pre-assessment, post-assessment, progress monitoring, and whatever else you have in mind!
Questions involve; close reading, using context clues, inference, poetry elements, plot, characterization, analytical reading, comprehension, reading for meaning, vocabulary and so much more!

1. Nonfiction - Neil Armstrong and His Space Walk
-Key Elements: Close read, deciphering meaning, main idea/details, structure, understanding the life of a nonfiction person
2. Nonfiction – May Day
-Key Elements: Close read, deciphering meaning, understanding illustrations, main idea/details
3. Nonfiction – May Day Baskets
-Key Elements: Understanding diagrams, following directions, deciphering understanding on meaning between diagrams and instructions
4. Nonfiction – Cinco de Mayo
-Key Elements: Close read, deciphering meaning, synonyms, definitions/context clues, understanding text
5. Nonfiction – Lewis and Clark Expedition
-Key Elements: Close read, understanding text, deciphering meaning, main idea/details, understanding maps
6. Fiction – An excerpt from Island of the Blue Dolphins
-Key Elements: Close read, plot elements (characterization, setting) deciphering meaning, point of view
7. Biography – Scott O’Dell
-Key Elements: Close read, understanding text and a nonfiction figure.
-Extra activity – Story Writing
8. Poem – The Voice of Spring
-Key Elements: Poetic Elements, close read of poetry, setting, decipher meaning and stanzas
9. Fiction – Excerpt Where the Mountain Meets the Moon
-Key Elements: Close read, deciphering meaning, understanding descriptions and text
10. Nonfiction – Memorial Day
-Key Elements: Close read, understanding nonfiction text
11. Poem – For Those (A Memorial Day poem)

*Note: If you are purchasing packets for 4th and 5th grade they are VERY similar. Because Common Core groups 4/5 together, I have created my packets accordingly. Please email me with any questions before you purchase the same packet in these two grades.
