Are you looking for a resource which helps your students practice the essential early literacy skills of sight word identification, emergent reading, concepts of print, and writing conventions, all at the same time?!? My print-and-go sight word journals do just that! Easy Peasy!
This May journal includes 10 writing pages centered on the themes of Spring, Flowers, and Insects! Sight words addressed in this journal include: the, big, pink, is, they, to, like, I, can, my, that, up, see, we, green, a, do, you, has, three, red, little, and, yellow, black.
Directions for implementation: Print one copy of this journal for each student in your class. Staple on the left-hand side to make a “book”. That’s all there is to it! This 10-page journal can be used as a morning work activity or during guided reading groups all month long. Students should read the sight word sentence, trace it, and then write the sentence independently on the provided lines. They can then color the picture. I suggest modeling use of this journal for kindergarten students before distributing for independent work. You may want to use this as the focus of a writing mini-lesson and demonstrate reading the sentence, tracing the sentence, writing it, reading the completed sentence, and coloring the picture.
