Bragmarks are a bit of a hybrid—a cross between a Brag Tag and a bookmark.
I use them with my students to motivate them to READ READ READ and to take AR tests.
A few times a week, I go onto Accelerated Reader and check all the AR tests my students have taken. If someone has taken and passed a test with an 80% score or higher, I give them a Bragmark. The kids hole-punch them in the corner and attach them to a little silver binder ring, which also hold all of their brag tags.
Since implementing this in my classroom, the kids are reading much, much more and taking record numbers
of AR tests.
But you don’t need to use Accelerated Reader (AR)
to use these Bragmarks. You can use any reading comprehension program, or your own classroom
The kids love collecting these just like baseball cards
or brag tags.
I’ve made 4 pages of BragMarks, each with 4 different appealing styles that the kids wanna collect.
Talk it up and compare it to collecting baseball cards---gotta get at least one of each style. Promote them as limited-edition….around for only a short time. The kids will be eager to get the next BragMark that they need to add to their collection.
