Magnets and Designing Your Own Experiment! The two just go hand in hand! This lesson is one that your students will love!
Student share what they know about magnets through the use of a Circle Map. This thinking map tool is perfect to capture what students already know about magnets. From there, students explore what happens when paper clips are put on top of a plate and a magnet is put underneath. Students use this science activity to write about what they observed. Then students use the 4 Question strategy to design their own testable question. Students finish up the lesson by conducting an authentic research project to see how many of their friends think a magnet can pull through several paper plates! This lesson includes opportunities for students to use math and practice their writing skills while working and thinking like a real scientist!
