This engaging project revolves around the premise that a wandering tribe has entered into the Americas and are ready to settle down and join an established civilization. It's the students' job to "sell" the advancements and achievements of their home civilization (either Maya, Aztec, Inca) to this newly encountered tribe.
The class will be split into three groups, the Maya, Inca and Aztec. Each group will be broken down into five categories: Location and Structures, Knowledge, Religion and Art, Daily Life/Entertainment, and Leadership. In pairs, students research these topics and create a Google Slide show. On the day of presentations, students will then pitch the greatness of their civilization to the the "wandering tribe." Directions specify that students should treat this like a sales pitch or infomercial.
This could take 1-2 weeks depending on how much time you give your students to prepare and do research. Students can use their textbook and electronic sources for research.
Included in your purchase are student handout/directions, student note-taking page, vocabulary list for student reference, concluding writing assessment which is in the form of a "Application Letter", and three separate Maya, Inca, Aztec quizzes which could also be used to check for understanding.
