Description
Integrate your poetry/figurative language teaching with a character education and art lesson! This set of lessons uses the book, "Maya Was Grumpy" to teach about how being grumpy keeps us from the fun parts of life. As we move toward the end of the year, those character education lessons become more and more crucial!
It's also a handy way to practice alliteration and personification, as well as learn about several art lessons like watercolor techniques (wash, wet in wet, dry brush and drop in) and art vocabulary like: translucent, opaque, brightness, value, shade tint, cool, warm, wash.
This lesson set includes:
- Three lessons - on connections/feelings, alliteration/personification, and art vocabulary and technique
- A comprehension sheet to use with the book
- Differentiated response sheets WITH keys
- Art vocabulary definition cards
- Water color technique options
- Instructions and template for the craftivity

RL.2.2 Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
RL.2.3 Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
RL.2.4 Describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.
