This is a delightful story about a special relationship between a grandmother and granddaughter. Abuelita makes Maya a blanket, in Spanish, a “manta.” When the edges become frayed, Abuelita and Maya make the manta into a dress, a “vestido.” Throughout the years, Abuelita and Maya make many pieces of clothing to wear and objects out of the same piece of cloth. Love and recycling are the messages in this story. As a teacher reads this story to the class, the teacher can pause, and students can draw what the Spanish word says at the top of each box. There are also some Guided Reading questions that students will enjoy thinking about and answering. This is a beautiful brand new book, fresh off the press! It is written in English on one side, and Spanish on the other. The illustrations are vivid and quite expressive!
