Do you need an activity that covers the controversy of Joseph McCarthy's anti-communist witch hunts in post-World War II America? If so, this activity is for you!
This "McCarthyism in Political Cartoons" Activity includes:
1) A thought provoking, document-based activity that allows your students to examine three political cartoons in order to get a better understanding of the policies of Joseph McCarthy and the extent to which the Second Red Scare ran rampant through the American government. These three political cartoons are accompanied by a graphic organizer as a way to prompt your students to thoroughly examine the cartoon in order to get the most out of them.
This activity can be used in many different ways in the classroom. Students can work independently, in pairs or this activity can be used as a jigsaw in order to facilitate a class wide discussion about the topics discussed in the activity.
2) A detailed answer key to the lesson activity to save you time and help guide student comprehension.
