The following are supplemetal materials to aid in student understanding of high frequency words, spelling, and vocabulary.
I designed these activities to keep teachers organized with vocabulary and high frequency words for each week. Each week's high frequency words and vocabulary included. (Unit 1 weeks 1-6)
These activities support Common Core standards as they encourage students to create, synthesize and make connections. Students can take home the flashcards of the different words. The cards can also be used in conjunction with the Rule Chart Page. On this page, students have to categorize the words into different groups based on a self created rule. Students then put the different words into groups. This task demands students to have a firm grasp on the meaning of words but to also make connections between different words. Students can write down the different words on their chart and then make new rules for each set of words. Additionally, this can be a great review tool as students can use words from previous weeks. Citing evidence is a key component of Common Core. The Word, Picture, Evidence chart allows students to make meaning with the different words and then cite evidence of the word’s meaning. Here, they can describe context clues from the story that has the vocabulary words in it for the week.
