This is a set of text dependent questions that correlate with the McGraw Hill Wonders Reading Series, "A Window Into History: They Mystery of the Cellar Window". I have created a set of questions that go along with the passage "A Penny Saved" found on workbook pages 163 and 164. The questions I have created require students to look back in the text to find their answers. Students are asked to identify the features of the text that make this passage a play, identify and explain the meaning of several idioms, identify personification, and include text evidence to support their answer. I encourage my students to highlight the portion of the passage that helps them find their answer. I believe this is a great way to prepare students to take standardized tests as well as form a habit of "proving" their answers by finding text support. This is a skill that students MUST conquer in order to be successful with the new common core standards.
The second portion of this assignment requires students to make text to self connections. Several portions of the text have been chosen and student will be required to make a connection to that particular portion of the text. This will help student improve their comprehension as they relate to the characters in the passage.
I have several other activities that correlate with this story. Please take a look and see if anything interests you. Thank you for considering my products. Please leave feedback if you enjoy using them in your classroom and to receive your TPT credits. THANKS!
