This is a craftivity that relates to folktales. I used this activity with the McGraw Hill Wonders story "Blancaflor", but it could be used with any folktale. I taught my children the elements of a folktale at the beginning of the week. We then did a close read with several folktales and identified the distinguishing characteristics we found in the text. I used this activity as a overall evaluation of this genre.
Students are asked to create an advertisement for a folktale. They are required to write the meaning/definition of a folktale, include an illustration that supports one of the components of a folktale, and write a caption beneath their illustration explaining it.
I believe this is a great way to incorporate art, visualization, and a way to prove a full understanding of this genre. I hope your students enjoy this activity as much as my students did. Thank you for considering my products!
