This is a writing activity that correlates with the McGraw Hill Wonders Reading Series Unit 2, Week 3 "The Boy Who Drew Birds". I have a created a graphic organizer that allows students to create a diary entry that John James Audubon might have written while he was studying the birds. Students should be encouraged to use text evidence and inference skills to create their entries.
Stars have been added to the organizer to allow students to create drawings that John James might have drawn during his observations. His initials have been included at the top of each star just as the author indicated in the biography.
This will be an excellent activity for students to combine comprehension, inferencing, and writing skills into a fun activity. I plan to encourage my students to produce A+ work so their work may be kept as student examples for me to show next year. I hope your students enjoy this activity!
This activity is also included in my lesson plan bundle for this story along with vocabulary activities, organziers, text dependent questions, and a power point presentation. Thank you for considering my products! Be on the lookout for other products relating to the McGraw Hill Wonders Series. Enjoy!
