This is an activity sheet that correlates with the McGraw Hill Wonders Reading series. This activity sheet aligns with the spelling words found in Unit 6, week 2. A variety of activities are included in this sheet. Students are asked to use the words in a sentence. Directions are given for students to include each of the 4 different types of sentences. Students are asked to write the word, its syllabication, the definition, and the guide words on the page they found the word in the dictionary. Students will be tested on their knowledge of synonyms and antonyms. They will also be asked to write their words in reverse alphabetical order, Z-Y-X. Finally, students are asked to create an original sentence using alliteration and their spelling words. This activity sheet may be given on Monday and required to be completed by the end of the week. It would also be appropriate for portions of it to be done in class or in partners. An additional idea would be to place this activity sheet in a literacy center. Overall, this is a great way to assess your students understanding of the phonetic skill, word meaning, and evaluate their language arts skills at the same time.
