This product pertains to the McGraw-Hill Wonders Unit 1 Week 3 leveled readers for grade 5.

Since students get used to the "routine" of Wonders quite quickly, for this week's story, I offered more of a creative opportunity for my students. Each group reads the same story this week, "Save This Space". The content is the same in all 3 stories, with the only difference being Lexile levels.

For the story, "Save This Space", students read and answered questions about the two main naturalists in the story. They organized their information before turning their information into posters to raise environmental awareness. The posters were completed on colored printer paper after the "notes sheet" had been completed. We then hung the posters around the school. This was a hit with my students! They loved the opportunity to share their learning while getting an opportunity to be creative and, yes, KIDS!

This file has 3 components, one of which is optional.

One document is the "notes sheet" that students completed while reading. I required all of this information to be included on their posters in some way.

Another document I have included is an example of a poster that a group of students made. (I had made an example to show students prior to beginning the activity.) The majority of students created their posters on plain, colored printer paper.

The final document included offers a more guided way for students to set up the poster. It is titled "Save This Space Poster Design". This guide works well for students who struggle with either organization or visual/spacial. This document was OPTIONAL and only offered to students who could not free-hand their posters. I printed these on colored paper so that they still looked eye-catching.

Enjoy! This activity may be used alongside leveled readers for independent work, group work, or guided practice.
