Students will be able to get hands on experiment being an entomologist by using basic science processing skills such as observing, measuring, classifying, inferring, predicting and communicating. Students will learn as insects develop, they pass through several stages. Some insects change their appearance completely as they pass through different stages. This change is called metamorphosis. Students will be engaged as they do hands on observations and record their data on sheets. They will learn and watch as the mealworm goes through the larva stage, pupa stage and what it looks like in the adult stage. Students will observe and do hands on activities once a week and record their results. Afterwards, they will be able to write an informative essay on mealworms. This is an easy unit to prepare for. Simply get the supplies for the mealworm farms and pass out the Mealworm packet. The students observe and record their data and discuss the results as a class only once a week.
