This is a fun lab activity I like to use with my students to get them up and moving around while they are still collecting data AND finding the mean, median, mode, and range of those data sets. You place at least 5 different food boxes (cans, etc.) around the room. Students rotate around the room and read the nutrition labels of those foods. They record the grams of sugars, fats, and proteins of 5 foods. When they have collected the 5 foods, they go back to their desk and organize the data to find the central measures of tendency and range. I like to include a food item such as water or diet soda that has ZERO as one of the grams, that way students have to think about whether or not you should use the zero in the data set.
