Students often confuse Mean, Median, Mode and Range. It is a concept that takes lots of practice. Use these guided, leveled centers to help your students master these terms.
This product includes 5 different activities that will help students practice mean, median, mode and range. All of the activities can be completed individually, in groups, with you or as part of a center. These activities are based on a 4th grade level. Included are two on level activities, two enrichment activities, and one activity to help struggling students. Answer sheets are included.
The activities are as follows:
Dice Median Mode and Range (on level): Students roll dice to create sets of data. They are then asked to find the median, mode and range of that data set.
Make the Grade (above level): Students are given a set of grades for 4 students. They are asked to find the average for each student's grades.
Working Backwards (above level): Students are given a set of data and a number from that set. They are asked to determine if the number is the median, mode or range of the data. They are also asked to create a set of data that meets certain qualifications.
Finding Median, Mode and Range (below level): This activity guides students through basic practice with median, mode and range one concept at a time. At the end, there is a mixed practice.
Problem Solvers (on level): This activity has students practice median, mode, range and mean in the context of word problems and line plots.
Along with the activities, I have included a card for each term that gives the definition and shows a sample problem. These cards can be kept in a center folder for students to refer to during practice. These cards will help make the activities truly independent.
