Use these task cards as a fun way to work with data sets by finding the mean, median, mode and range. Several grade levels are listed, to assist with differentiating your skill work. The same cards can be used for accelerated, on level, or below level students based on grade level. Use these cards for students in Grades 3-5. Use them in your math center, during small group work, or use them one at a time with your whole class. A Student Recording Sheet is included so students can record their answers for each card. The Student Recording Sheet is meant to be copied back-to-back. I always have my students use scratch paper to work the problems, and then transfer their answers to the recording sheet. Answer Key is provided.
Simply print out the cards, cut, and laminate. I mount each card on to cardstock before laminating, to make them extra sturdy. Store them either in a basket or plastic bag, or hole punch each card and store on a binder ring for easy access.
Task cards like these just "cry out" for a game of SCOOT! Another option is to simply print out the cards and Student Recording Sheet in grayscale, and provide them to students as a "packet" to be worked on as a "When You're Finished" project.
Help your students remember how to find the mean, median, mode, and range of a data set with the poem that’s included, and then use the quick check to assess student progress.
