Bullying Tolerance Self-esteem Lesson w 2 Video links "Mean" by Taylor Swift
This PowerPoint presentation is a great way to teach bullying prevention, empathy, and friendship / interpersonal skills to your elementary kids. It is based on the song, "Mean" by Taylor Swift and includes a link to an 4 minute video of the song.
The lyrics of the song are included along with comprehension questions to help students see the meaning behind the lyrics as well as the thought processes of targets / victims of bullying. The goal of this presentation is to help students build empathy for targets / victims as well as to see bullying behaviors for what they are.
This presentation has 20 slides and includes a link to a second 3+minute video that helps students to understand the importance of embracing the uniqueness of each of us. This should be a great lesson that opens up and encourages discussion regarding tolerance, diversity, compassion, and bullying.
I would schedule 30-45 minutes for this lesson, depending on how much discussion you include in your presentation.
The PowerPoint is customizable allow you to create the most appropriate version for each grade level. The presentation includes both animations and transitions to hold your students' interest. Make your lesson come alive for your students and help them to connect to the concept in a fun way that will help them to remember the important lessons you need for them to remember.
