For this lesson, students are given a quote that describes an unknown artist’s work. They are to create a piece of 2D artwork that fits the quote. After completion, they will be told the artist’s name and will see pieces of his work, followed by a class discussion about the artwork and how it fits the quote.
This project includes 12 quotes from 8 artists. It’s a great way to include art history in a general art class, or it can be used to introduce periods in an art history class. It also contains instructions, questions for class discussion, handouts of the quotes, and brief bios of the artists. Because of copyright laws, it contains no images. Instead, links are provided to the relevant artwork. If I find a link no longer works, an updated version of the product will be made available.
