The development of this unit is taken from a portion of my personally created ‘Annual Pacing Guide’. The APG’s overall focus is on the exploration of different cultures, religions, and their various experiences with oppression. It’s important to note that the classroom theme would be focused on appreciation for the diversity of people, religion, and culture. The main purpose for such a focal point is integration between subjects. This allows more time and focus in areas (like Social Studies) that do not get enough attention in the classroom. The particular unit selection you will be reading about takes up 4 ½ weeks of the school year. The allotted time may seem monumental, yet made feasibly possible due to its fluid integration into the core curriculum areas of Literature and History. This aids in cultivating a larger amount of time for meaningful social studies, while also bringing a cohesive connectedness to student learning.---- Common Core and State Standards are included in the content of the actual document :)! Hope you enjoy!
