Students will go on a treasure hunt in the classroom by following the directions on their "maps". Each step will have them measuring various classroom items like pencils, chairs, etc and making conversions using their "compass". Students find clues along the way that lead them to the treasure! My students wanted to do this again and didn't even notice they were learning in the process!
This lesson is used after students have learned about: inches, centimeters, millimeters, pounds, ounces, grams, kilograms and measuring.
In the lesson students will first measure and then convert using a "compass" as a guide (equivalents and conversions are listed for them on their compass). While students are measuring and converting they are also finding clues along the way that will take them to the final treasure (teachers can fill in blank for their own reward treasure. ex: stickers, candy, free time, etc.)
Conversions in lesson:
Inches to centimeters

Pounds to ounces
Grams to kilograms
