This activity combines math, art and writing all rolled into one!
Students begin by using an inch ruler to measure all parts of a snowman. This allows them practice with manipulating a ruler as them measure to the nearest inch.
They write their measurements down on a recording sheet. Students can check their answers using an answer key. When all measurements are correct, students can color, cut and assemble the snowman. Their imaginations will run wild as they move into the writing portion of this project. Students use the brainstorming sheet to sketch and write about the day their snowman came to life! Included is a final draft writing page to write down their stories with plenty of details.
This activity works wonderfully during small group math and reading time.
Be sure to print off the slides in their original size to maintain the correct sizing.
