This 5-page PDF document includes lesson instructions, two black-line-master 20-line measurement exercises, and answer keys.
Each exercise page contains 20 distinct lines. The first exercise page is perfectly designed so each line measures exactly 1-13 full centimetres in length (so rulers that are 15 cm or 30 cm in length can be used for the task, and sub-centimetre accuracy is not required). The second exercise page requires students to measure lines to the nearest millimetre.
On both pages, students are asked to provide measurements in both centimetres (cm) and millimetres (mm). At the end of each page, student learning is extended (and knowledge of relative length is required) by asking students which line# is longer, shorter, or the same length as another line# of their choosing.
These exercises are most appropriate for primary grades 1-3, or anyone learning to use a ruler and measure line length.
Note: When printing the page, be sure to print the document in its full size on 8.5x11 paper (do not "scale to printable area" or select other print options (page size, scaling, etc) that may shrink or expand the printed output) - otherwise, the answer key will no longer be correct.
