I use this measurement activity so that my students can investigate area and perimeter. Each half page provides students with square units, and they have the opportunity to count and number the square units for the area of the photos.
Students use their ruler to measure the perimeter of each image. Some of the images are covered by a grid so students can count the square units. There is also an empty grid for students to draw their own picture and then estimate the area and perimeter.
My students enjoyed the scavenger hunt. Searching for objects within the classroom environment is always a fun way to get students out of their seats. This lesson has proven to be very engaging as my students find various items and measure solutions!
