Your students will have fun with this measurement activity. They will construct a 'Gallon Girl' in order to help them better understand the units of capacity measurement. Once the Gallon Girl is constructed, the students can easily see conversions, such as it takes 16 cups to equal 1 gallon. If you have activity sheets they will be converting, they can also use this Gallon Girl to refer to.
The measurements included are cups, pints, quarts, and gallon
In addition to the constructing of the Gallon Girl, I have included a little story I tell my students in order to help them better remember the measurement conversions.
Measurements included are cups, pints, quarts, and gallons.
There is also a small poster (8.5x11) that I have made in full color of the Gallon Girl that you could project as you are having the kids construct the Gallon Girl, or you can use it to hang in your classroom.
This activity can be done as a whole class, as a math workshop activity, or in a center.
Please feel free to use this in the classroom however you would like.
