*Please note - the thumbnail image shows the formatting a little askew - the document actually consists of the text and picture box three times in three separate columns.*
I designed this "birth announcement" for an activity on measurement. It's made to look like a birth announcement you might see in a newspaper. The bottom of the column includes a blank box for students to either paste or draw a picture of themselves as a baby. The students are then to fill in the information about themselves as a baby (information normally included in a birth announcement) - their name, birthdate, gender, length in inches, and weight in pounds and ounces. I find that this is a good way not only to help the students relate these measurement concepts to their personal lives, but also to involve the parents in the assignment - after all, the students have to find out their birth information from the people who know it best!
