This Measurement Conversions Unit is perfect for teaching your students how to convert between customary and metric units of measurement!

Have you ever finished teaching a math lesson that kind of ended in a disaster? Maybe it's only me! After a few of these disasters, I started changing the way that I taught math to my students. I realized that I just had to make my lessons more engaging.

This unit includes everything that you will need to teach measurement. It was very successful in my classroom!

This Measurement Unit Includes:

  1. PowerPoint Lesson: 110 Slides
  2. → The lesson is scaffolded; therefore, it builds upon itself. It starts by reviewing both customary and metric units of length, weight, and capacity before teaching students how to convert between the units.
  3. → By the end of the lesson, students will be able to solve two step conversion word problems.
  4. → This PowerPoint is visually engaging - it includes a video and various website links to keep students engaged.
  5. Day by Day Unit Plan Suggestions
  6. Interactive Notes that follow along with the lessons

Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement, express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement equivalents in a two-column table. For example, know that 1 ft is 12 times as long as 1 in. Express the length of a 4 ft snake as 48 in. Generate a conversion table for feet and inches listing the number pairs (1, 12), (2, 24), (3, 36),...
Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system (e.g., convert 5 cm to 0.05 m), and use these conversions in solving multi-step, real world problems.
