I used this measurement sort to review concepts such as: capacity, mass, length/width, area & perimeter, and temperature. I found everyday pictures as well as unconventional pictures to challenge my students. They had to work in teams, think critically and talk about where does each picture belong. This math activity really helped my struggling learners as well as my ELL students. The visual representations helped them to identify everyday items and make better connections to measurement concepts and academic vocabulary overall.
I enjoyed watching my students work, discuss pictures, and defend their choices. This was a lively activity that kept my students focused and engaged. They were intent on sorting and solving.
I also used this activity as a team competition. The group that had the most items sorted correctly won (teacher discretion as to whether they have the honor of being the winning team or if they get a prize like a sticker or treat).
Two sort pages as well as a page with headings is included for your use!
