### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

I designed these measurement stations for my 3rd graders. Not only does it help them practice math skills, but they also get to use some scientific tools. The stations included are as follows:

1) Centimeters Rule: Practice measuring in metric units.
2) Celsius Adventures: Practice reading thermometers on the Celsius side.
3) Balancing Pans: Practice using a pan balance and figuring out how many grams certain objects weigh.
4) Triple Practice: Practice reading a triple beam balance virtually
5) A New Direction: Practice reading a compass and using cardinal directions.
6) Stopping Time: Practice timing with a stopwatch.

Materials needed for these stations include:

- Centimeter Rule: 1 ruler, 1 bucket, 1 new pencil, 1 {whole} scrap piece of paper, 1 book
- Celsius Adventures: 2 beakers filled with tap water {and placed on burners}, 1 beaker filled with ice water, 2 thermometers, paper towels, 2 burners*
- Balancing Pans: 1 pan balance, 1 block, 4 buttons, 2 hole punches, 2 calculators, a magnifying glass, a rock, and gram weights**
- Triple Practice: Access to at least 1 computer
- A New Direction: 1 compass and 1 “secret object” (I use a teddy bear weight, but you could use a block, a colored sticky note, etc.)
- Stopping Time: 1 stopwatch

When you download this pack, you get the following components:
- a detailed lesson plan
- 6 colorful "station direction" pages to print, laminate, and put next to each station for the children to reference during the activity
- 2 separate recording sheets for students to record data during the station work. These recording sheets come 2/piece of paper, which fits perfectly into a composition notebook.

*Please note: the "Celsius Adventures" station appears in both this packet and in my "Measurement Stations Using Science and Math Tools: Part II" packet. However, I make the stations different by adjusting the temperature of the water so that none of the answers are identical.
**Please note: the "Balancing Pans" station appears in both this packet and in my "Measurement Stations Using Science and Math Tools: Part II" packet. However, I make the stations different by including different objects the students must measure so none of the answers are identical.
