One of the most confused and confusing topics in elementary school math is that of area and perimeter. We all know that, although our kiddos know the formulas, they often apply them to the wrong situations. If it requires perimeter, they multiply, and if it requires area, they add. To address this, I came up with this set of illustrations. SO far, I have only addressed 2-dimensional shapes, but will be updating to include 3-D objects and volume.
How do you use these?
If you have access to a wide-format printer, print them full-size as anchor charts.
If wall space is at a premium, use them to display on your interactive whiteboards or on your document camera.
Print one for each student and add them to a binder, laminated or in sleeve protectors.
Do a combination of all of the above, or come up with one of your own. If you do, I would love to hear how you put these to use!
This is a high-resolution vector-based illustration created in graphic design software. The file looks deceptively simple but packs a lot of information without overwhelming your students. I try to do as much research as possible when creating these so I am pretty confident in the accuracy of the information.
Document dimensions 24"x31" (scaled up from a letter-size format)
Need to print cheaply? Free is even better. See my freebie on how to Print BIG and Cheap - https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/How-to-Print-Big-Cheap-Anchor-charts-without-the-Expense-2952831)
Not a lot of wall space? Want to save paper? Display this on your interactive whiteboard during the lesson. Print off letter size for INBs or put in sleeve protectors for a binder reference.
