This series of 4 partner activities will be just what you need to teach measures of center (mean, median, mode, range) and measures of variability (range, interquartile range and mean absolute deviation). In Part 1 of each activity, students can work individually or as partners. In part 2 of each activity, students must work together to answer the questions. Part 1 is self-checking, as both partners will get the same answers.
Activity 1 has a focus on finding measures of central tendency from sets of data. Activity 2 has a focus on finding mean, median and mode from either data sets or line plots. Activity 3 has a focus on finding range, interquartile range, and mean absolute deviation (MAD) from a set of data. Activity 4 focuses on finding range and interquartile range from sets of data, or a box-and-whisker plot.
This resource also includes notes sheets about measures of center, measures of variability and making line and box-and-whisker plots. NOTE: These notes sheets are also included in my STEM Challenge Math Lesson: Percent Change and Statistics.
