Product Description

Update for distance learning: this lab is possible for distance learning if students have string/yarn and a yard or park nearby. String/yarn can be used instead of PVC pipe quadrats. Students can form the string into a circle and count the species.

This 5E lesson will walk your student through how to use a quadrat for measuring biodiversity. For lower levels, students can do the Engage and Explore section. For higher levels, students can do the Explain section which teaches kids how to use two biodiversity indices and Elaborate which has students design their own experiment using quadrats to measure different places on campus. The last section, Evaluate, has students design and present a poster to the class.
