This activity was designed to be a math center where students are to practice measuring to the nearest inch and answering questions about the data that they record.
Students use rulers to measure eight differently colored pipe cleaner "caterpillars" to the nearest inch. They will color in each caterpillar on their sheet and write down it's length. When finished, students answer several questions about their measurements, including simple "what length was the orange caterpillar?" and more advanced .. "what was the difference between the length of the yellow caterpillar and the red caterpillar?"
To set up center you will need rulers and eight already cut pipe cleaners (cut to exact inch measurements). So that the questions are valid, you must use a red, green, orange, blue, and purple pipe cleaners (other 3 caterpillars can be any other color). The red caterpillar needs to be longer than the green.
The kids love this activity. Enjoy!! :)
