### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is an inquiry-based activity and class discussion in which students investigate the relationship between a circle's circumference and the length of its diameter by measuring a variety of circular objects. The scripted class discussion also reinforces data analysis skills of calculating mean and identifying outliers.

This is a great activity for Pi Day, but could also be used any time to cover these concepts.

VA SOL 6.10a: The student will define π (pi) as the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.G.B.4 Know the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle and use them to solve problems. (This activity only addresses circumference and diameter.)
TEKS 7.5B Describe π as the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.
