PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A simple worksheet to assess whether students can convert larger units (yards and feet) to smaller units (inches).

In my class, students paired to measure each other's height. As a class, we compiled their heights in a list. (As I anticipated, students had measured in inches alone, a combination of feet and inches and yards and inches.) We discussed the need to unify all the units if we wanted to compare the data.

We took notes on the various units of the customary system of length. Through guided instruction, we converted their heights to inches alone. Afterwards, we compared and analyzed the data.

This assessment was meant to measure the students' understanding of expressing larger units in terms of smaller units.
