This 30-slide lesson is perfect for your students if they need an introduction to (or review of!) measurement concepts. Lesson has clearly defined objectives and vocabulary. Slides take students through a review of 1-dimensional measurement (length) and then moves on to show students how to find the area of a rectangle, parallellogram, and triangles. Also introduces surface area and finding volume of whole-number edge rectangular prisms. Has examples, guided practice, and independent practice - also has a class work component at the end.
This style of instruction was successful for my students who struggled to pay attention in class and/or found it difficult to take useful notes. Especially in middle school, developing note-taking skills is important! This will help students learn that skill as well.
CCSS-aligned 6.G.A.1 and is a precursor to 6.G.A.2 & 6.G.A.4
Although this aligns with 6th grade CCSS, these lessons could be used for 7th grade students studying the same concepts.
NOT an assessment, unit, or homework
Does have interactive independent practice (kinesthetic) as well as partner work for the class work section.
