This unit plan includes lesson descriptions and materials for 10 lessons (based on 1 hour periods). This unit was designed to flow directly into a mini unit on perimeter, spiraling to include previously learned knowledge from our 2D Shapes and 3D Objects unit.

These lessons cover the following curriculum outcomes from the Alberta Program of Studies:

General Outcome: Use direct and indirect measurement to solve problems.

Specific Outcomes: Demonstrate an understanding of measuring length (cm, m) by:
• selecting and justifying referents for the units cm and m
• modelling and describing the relationship between the units cm and m
• estimating length, using referents
