This activity for kindergarten students is teaching them to compare the heights of two objects. It uses non-standard measurement. The student measures the object against a monster. If the object is taller, it gets a thumbs up. If it is the same height, a thumbs to the side. And if it is shorter, a thumbs down. My students loved this activity. I let them use stickers to indicate the correct comparison.
I also made this into a math center by cutting out the pictures on the red lines, laminating them, then cutting them again. I have my students sort the pictures into piles: taller than the monster, the same height, and shorter than the monster. My students LOVE this math center. They love sorting things, and they love using the monsters.
