This activity is designed to reinforce metric measurement and drawing skills. Students convert the measurements of a simulated house (in imperial units) into a floor plan using a scale factor (in metrics). Students then follow a specific set of directions to place rooms throughout the house. By following the directions and carefully drawing, students create a simple floor plan for a one-story house. This activity quietly engages students for the course of a class period and easily leads to further investigation.
