About this Resource

Understanding media classifications is part of the Protective Behaviour curriculum. It helps students learn why different media (movies, tv shows and video games) are classified under different ratings (G, PG, M, MA, R) and how they can learn about the different ratings.

This is an important lesson for students due to the growing exposure to age-inappropriate content online.

When I have completed this activity in the past, I have asked students to share their findings with parents (for instance, via Seesaw) to help educate parents about the importance of considering age restrictions.

Included:

  • Lesson Plan
  • Powerpoint for direct instruction (with student activity included)
  • Media Classification Activity Worksheet
